Until a few years a go there was no difference of opinion on the doing extra ibaadat on the 15 shaban. Unfortunately people have beome deviated from the straight path.
It is a principle established by the scholars that even a weak hadith can be followed when doing act of virtue.
So even for those who argue that the hadith are weak, the scholars still say that it is permissible to carry out the deeds mentioned in them as there is no loss incurred by performing that act of peity.
For example. If a hadith states to pray 2 rakat nafl on a particular day you get 10 times the reward of 2 rakat of normal nafl.
Now if a person follows the hadith what has he lost, nothing. If the hadith is accurate he get the reward of 10x.
If the hadith is not accurate he still gets the reward of 2 nafl.
It is win win situation.
